First test flight of the Airbus A380

This morning at 10.30 Airbus A380, the aircraft passenger world's largest, has made its first test flight DESD French Toulouse airport. Some 50,000 people attended the historic launch.

Airbus A380 has two floors, 4 halls and capacity to carry 555 passengers and is considered one of the most important advances in commercial aviation for many years. It measures 73 meters long and 24 high, which is the equivalent of a seven-storey building.

This morning the plane was carrying a crew of six people (two pilots and four engineers) and 20 tons of equipment for testing during the flight. Most tests were conducted at an altitude of about 3500 meters.

This year Airbus A380 will perform several test flights in preparation for its first commercial flight scheduled for 2006.
